The AA have done a survey suggesting that 97% of pupils learning to drive though they should know that their instructor was also going though training to be a driving instructor.
The AA is not putting pressure on the Government to inform consumers that they are being taught by a trainee driving instructor, so they can make an informed decision that the instructor is right for them. To make this issue worse, 10 years ago the department of transport found that the pass rate for students being taught by a trainee instructor was 25% down on the fully qualified ones.
A pink badge is what distinguished if your driving instructor is themselves being taught, however the study showed that only 6% of those who took the poll knew this. It is understood that only 30% of trainees pass the final instructors exam.
With a huge growth in driving instructor training schools to match the apparent demand in new drivers, the AA President Edmund King has sent a letter to Minister Paul Clark to raise these concerns.
